Within the next month Gary Illyes from Google has mentioned for us to be ready for another Panda update. Nothing will be changing to the actual algorithm it will just be another data refresh which means that websites that are in current penalty may recover soon, providing they have addressed all of their content issues. On the other hand, those sites also may not recover and new sites might be penalised! This is a good chance for website owners to fix up some of their content and try to target the users intent rather than trying to optimise for the search engines. It is the search engines job to provide the most up to date and useful information for all of us, so if you think your website is not addressing this criteria then now is your chance for an urgent review before the update rolls out.
Google Penguin update is in the making!
The fun does not stop with the Panda. Brace yourselves, Penguin is coming! Gary also mentioned that Google is working towards a better automated Penguin algorithm so that data will be getting refreshed all the time. Currently the algorithm is running quite slow as data needs to be manually refreshed before any websites are impacted. This requires a lot of work, however it is being worked on so we can expect some more news in the upcoming months.
Due to the complexity of the Panda algorithm Google cannot see it running automatically like the planned Penguin updates. For Panda updates updates will need to be done via manual data refreshes.
